Bloom Greens

What is Bloom Nutrition?

Established in 2019 by a married couple with the aim of crafting health supplements using top-notch ingredients that are genuinely palatable, Bloom Nutrition has expanded its product line. Presently, Bloom Nutrition provides a variety of supplements including greens powder, collagen peptides powder, whey isolate protein, pre-workout, high-energy pre-workout, matcha, mood lift vitamins, fish oil supplements, and multivitamins.

In this assessment, I specifically evaluated Bloom's Greens & Superfoods blend. This powdered supplement is free from gluten, dairy, and soy. Each 5-gram scoop of greens comprises 15 calories, 3 grams of carbohydrates, 2 grams of fiber, 0.6 milligrams of iron, and 5 milligrams of sodium. Additionally, the powder contains seven distinct blends of assorted nutrients. These include 1,606 grams of a fiber blend, 1,367 grams of a green superfood blend, 648 milligrams of a pre and probiotic blend, 572 milligrams of a fruit and vegetable blend, 550 milligrams of an antioxidant blend, 150 milligrams of a digestive enzyme blend, and 100 milligrams of an adaptogenic blend. Depending on the chosen flavor, the greens also incorporate 57 to 95 milligrams of stevia extract.

Bloom Nutrition was launched in 2019 by Mari Llewellyn and Greg LaVecchia, a married couple. Llewellyn, new to the fitness scene, identified a gap in the supplement industry for products containing "high-quality ingredients that tasted delicious," as stated on Bloom's website.

The Greens & Superfoods powder stands out as the company's best seller and has gained traction on TikTok, as mentioned by Llewellyn. In addition to this, Bloom Nutrition offers collagen, pre-workout, protein, and vitamin supplements. Bloom's products are readily available nationwide, both online and in Target stores.

Expert Opinions Regarding Bloom Greens

Expert Opinions

Jaclyn London, a registered dietitian and certified dietician-nutritionist based in New York, urges consumers to approach Bloom Nutrition products with caution. She highlights a significant nutritional concern, stating, "The biggest problem from a nutrition standpoint is that because it's presumably produce [fruits and vegetables] in powdered form, you're automatically lose out on the benefits of water, essential minerals, fiber, and antioxidants that you would otherwise receive by eating a full food in any form."

London further questions the sourcing of Bloom's ingredients, particularly noting the absence of third-party testing results. She emphasizes the potential risks associated with untested ingredients, suggesting they "could be contaminated [with external ingredients like cadmium or lead] without us having any idea," which could pose harm either independently or in combination with medications or other ingested foods.

Regarding the therapeutic effects, Nichole Dandrea-Russert, M.S., a registered dietitian nutritionist and author of The Fiber Effect, notes that while the individual quantities of specific ingredients may not be sufficient to produce therapeutic effects, the combination of ingredients "may provide some antioxidants, adaptogens, enzymes, and prebiotic fiber."

Both Dandrea-Russert and London underscore that the powder should not serve as a substitute for whole foods but rather as a supplement to bolster a healthy diet.

Our Experience with Bloom Greens

Our Experience

Bloom Nutrition presents itself as a vibrant and trendy supplement brand, which makes it enticing to invest in its products and promises. I was particularly optimistic about its claims of reduced bloating and improved digestion.

Over the course of one week, I incorporated the Greens & Superfoods powder in the Original flavor into my daily routine, trying it both with water and in a smoothie (consisting of frozen berries, carrot juice, and protein powder). While the label recommends using a high-powered mixer to blend the powder with liquid, I found that shaking with a blender ball yielded equally satisfactory results when mixed with water.

The Original powder boasts a notably sweeter taste compared to other greens powders I've sampled; indeed, one scoop dissolved in water proved to be overly sweet for my palate. Similarly, adding one scoop to a smoothie noticeably enhanced its sweetness compared to the same ingredients blended without the Greens & Superfoods powder.

Contrary to Bloom's assertion that its Greens & Superfoods powder aids in reducing bloating, I personally experienced a slight increase in bloating after consuming one serving with water. This adverse effect was significant enough to dissuade me from continuing to use the product beyond the initial week. Additionally, I remain cautious about consuming the product further.
